HSU sees stronger fall enrollment than expected

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) — Fall enrollment is looking stronger than originally expected at Humboldt State University.

The semester isn’t what students hoped for given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but as of the first week of classes, 6,471 students are enrolled. While that’s 7.5% fewer than last year, it’s far better than the 20% decline that was expected due to recent trends and the pandemic.

New transfer students have increased by 14.4 percent. There are 550 first time freshman enrolled, which is 50 more than had been expected. First year retention is at 75%, which is the same as last year.
