Saturday, Cal Poly Humboldt released an email to students announcing that the universtity would be enforcing a hard closure of campus. The email stated, “anyone on campus without permission is subject to citation or arrest.”

Launa Wyrd, a community member participating in the protest spoke on their reaction to the announcement.

“It feels threatening,” Wyrd said. “To receive suddenly a closure and a threat that I could be potentially cited, arrested, felt largely unnecessary and antagonistic on behalf of the administration.”

This is due to the ongoing occupation of Siemens and Nelson Halls as part of a pro-Palestine protest that began on Monday, April 22. As part of the enforcement, police assisted facilities management in placing concrete barriers in front of the library circle and B street to prevent vehicles from entering those areas of campus.

A California State University Police Sergeant, Orrlando Mayes, gave a comment.

“We’re just doing a road closure right here at this intersection,” Mayes said. “People will still be able to exit, but that’s it. We’re not allowing people in.”

The police had no comment on whether they are planning to make any arrests any time soon.
