FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM)-If you’ve been wondering what’s going on at the end of Wescott Way behind Fortuna Fire’s main station – wonder no more.

The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department is in the process of building the infrastructure that’ll support a fire department training tower.

With Fortuna Fire putting on an Eel River Valley Fire Academy for the past 12 years, they say the training facility will enhance their ability to offer quality instruction to firefighters.

The training will not only be available exclusively to firefighters of the Eel River Valley but countywide.

The tower will be four-stories high and made out of containers – and will include built-in props, along with two separate burn rooms.

According to Fortuna Fire the state of the art facility will allow their department to continue to train local firefighters – to keep their skills sharp.

Just down the road from the new facility – a classroom will be built on-site to facilitate learning and classroom training.
