Red Salmon Complex has burned over 129,000 acres, still 31% contained

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Red Salmon Complex Fire has burned over 129,000 acres and remains 31% contained. Smoke continues to blanket communities surrounding the fire. Cabins along Knownothing Creek have been wrapped in protective material.

Today, firefighters are continuing defensive burning operations off Hotelling Ridge and down to Methodist Creek and by the Forks of Salmon. Crews continue to monitor a spot fire in the Colgrove Branch of Mill Creek.

“There was a spot just outside of our line, our main containment line there. They were able to get some dozer line around that, so that was good. They’ll continue working up there. This is a priority for us today,” planning operations chief Richard Parrish.

More than 600 personnel are fighting the fire including 54 engines and 6 helicopters.
