Some medical providers have Covid-19 vaccine wait lists, encouraged to first prioritize eligible individuals

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Only certain groups in Humboldt County are currently eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccine based on age or the business sector they work in. Some people are trying to go around the policy by getting on a wait list.

Some medical providers have wait lists in case they host a vaccination clinic, people don’t show up, and vaccines are left over that need to be used. There are people who aren’t technically eligible at the moment that have made their way onto those lists.

According to Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman, providers are encouraged to first reach out to those in the open eligibility tiers.

“We’ve always said all along, if it’s too much of a barrier to get through to some of those people, at the end of the day, the ultimate is that no vaccine goes to waste. We certainly don’t want to put up barriers that would create waste of the vaccine,” Hoffman says.

Hoffman added that Public Health maintains its own wait list as well, based on interest forms and eligibility tiers.
