Rain this weekend, likely to end the Monument Fire

MONUMENT PEAK, Calif.- The Monument Fire is a lightning-caused fire that was first reported on Friday, July 3rd, 2021. The fire is burning in brush and timber, mainly within the footprints of previous fires. The impression remains at 223,124 acres and is 94% contained. The rain is set to help out the fire, but the U.S Forest Service is concerned that it might be too much rain.

“Too much rain too fast is what’s causing or what can cause potential mudslides or a debris flow and, that’s the concern especially in areas where people you know live or drive by or recreate in,” said Phyllis Swanson, Public Information Officer representing the U.S. Forest Service.
