Bird Scooter Layoffs

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) The company hired by the city of Eureka to operate electric scooter rentals in the hopes of boosting local tourism and shopping is laying off nearly a quarter of its staff. The mass layoffs are part of an effort by Bird Scooter to cut costs after the company revealed it’s off to rough financial start so far this year. About 140 of Bird Scooter’s 600 workers will lose their jobs. The company says the job cuts won’t impact operations in the 400 cities, including Eureka where it currently does business.
