Eureka businesses announce lawsuit

EUREKA, Ca. KIEM- A conflict over housing versus parking is brewing in downtown Eureka!

A business group has announced it is suing the city and Humboldt county over plans to convert parking lots into housing projects!

The 32 petitioners, known as Citizens for a Better Eureka, claim that the city failed to meet the requirements under the California Environmental Quality Act.

They are asking the court to stop the city from further actions on the proposed projects, and restart with an honest study of impacts to traffic, pedestrians, public safety, and other impacts, not just parking availability.

Citizens for a Better Eureka stated that the city council members and staff have not listened to city residents and business owners who have consistently said the developments will not only ruin downtown businesses but create an unsafe environment.
