Local food truck owner, Codi Nishimoto, is having a fundraiser in Fortuna to raise money for donations to send to the people going through the wildfires in Maui.

“Tomorrow we are doing a fundraiser for Lahaina for the displaced families who have lost their homes and loved ones and just everything in the wildfires that started last Tuesday, August,” Nishimoto said. “They’re calling it the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history in over a century. It’s definitely the most devastating natural disaster that’s happened in Hawaii’s history.”

The event will be at Kreations Auto Body shop in Fortuna on Monday, August 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All of the profits made from the Pineapple Express sales will be donated. Kreations Auto Body will match those sales and also donate.

“Just seeing the outpouring of support from everybody in Humboldt that wants to help really, like, brought me to tears,” Nishimoto said. “Even though my family lives on Oahu, my grandma is originally from Lahaina, so like my great grandparent’s urns and my great aunties urns are in Lahaina. I mean, the devastation is crazy and I don’t think they’re letting people back in yet. So we’re not sure if that’s all there and intact.”

Nishimoto is from Hawaii and still has family on the island. Her family is safe from the wildfires. However, she does have friends and family belongings in Lahaina which is located in Maui. For people interested to learn more about the event details go to Pineapple Express’s social media.
