The sustainable farming husband-duo known as Foggy Bottoms Boys is a beloved staple of the community.

Yet, they say they were subjected to “hurtful and offensive gay slurs” at the Humboldt County Fair’s Chili Cook-Off.

“We really had a wonderful time, [we were] able to celebrate community with many of our friends and family,” CEO and co-owner Thomas Nicholson Stratton said. “Unfortunately, another contestant was consistently throwing hate speech to our interns and employee.”

And then things got worse.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, the foggy bottoms boys further explained “After the event concluded, the owner of this company damaged our supplies by running over several boxes of supplies while moving forward and then backing into our new tent and burner.”

“It was acknowledged by the employees but really the sole action of the owner and what was done there, whether or not it was intentional or not, was very unfortunate.” Nicholson Stratton said.

The contestant in question was LoCo Fish Co. In speaking with Ferndale Police, Jayme knight was arrest for driving under the influence on Thursday.

The 45-year-old was released on his own recognizance.

LoCo Fish Co. commented on the Foggy Bottoms Boys post with “We are extremely sorry for our actions.”

We reached out to the food truck company for comment, but did not receive a response.

In light of the incident, an outpouring of support has come in from the surrounding community, both online and off.

It is something that speaks to the notion of both Thomas and Cody Nicholson Stratton.

“We choose to live authentically and our choice to not give energy to the hate. Folks seem to think that Ferndale is a center of that and we know that it may be broadcasted and seen that way, but it is a very small minority of people,” Nicholson Stratton said.

“It’s not the community that I know and love and it’s not the community that my husband grew to love for six generations.”
