A new dating app is looking for people to join in the Eureka area.

Scott Avy and his team developed Skip, a dating app with no texting.

Avy said they wanted to eliminate wasted time in online dating.

“I spent a week chatting with [a match], getting to know who you are, then you ghost me,” Avy said. “That just sucks.”

Avy also mentioned with the rise of A.I. and ChatGPT, people can add a keyboard to their phone and let the bots text with you. So, even when you do think you’ve made a connection with someone, it might not even be real.

“We’re all very passionate about what we’re doing here and really excited we come from different backgrounds of some of the top tech companies we’ve worked at Amazon, Facebook, Indeed,” Avy said. “Our secret sauce here is we’re the only dating up in the world where there is no chat, and I would argue the best screening and with the A.I. algorithm as well.”

Here’s how it works:

In Skip, you not only create a profile, but you create a set of deal breakers. Those deal breakers can be anything you want them to be.

Maybe you want to know if your date has a credit score higher than 700.

Or if they’ve paid off their student loans.

Or if they like cats.

Potential dates must answer those questions within your parameters before they can make a date with you.

If they don’t have the right answers for what you’re looking for? They don’t get the chance to set a date.

It’s similar to technology Avy developed for Indeed, where companies could set their own list of deal breakers for potential job candidates. If the candidates didn’t have the qualifications, they’d know right away they didn’t get the job.

In Skip, if the potential date does have the right answers, they move ahead to setting a date.

Then, there are reminders to confirm the date, so you’re not sitting and wondering when the person will show up.

But you don’t have to exchange phone numbers with that person until you feel comfortable.

Safety was a big priority for Avy and his team while developing Skip.

“People don’t wanna feel like they’re end up on the Netflix documentary,” Avy said.

He also said they may add background checks to the app down the road.

Skip successfully launched last week in bigger markets.

“It’s working as literally our first day we have dates from new locations getting booked,” Avy shared.

And right now, it’s free.

“We’re 100% free knowing that purchases and we can do that because we’re actually leveraging a really a different model compared to the other dating apps competitors,” Avy said.

Sign up for Skip here and you’ll be alerted when it goes live in the Eureka area.
