Tuesday afternoon in Eureka, Big Brothers Big Sisters was setting up their yearly fireworks stand fundraiser, and receiving a large delivery from Don’s Rent-All. “We’re dropping off a 20 foot overseas storage container for big brothers big sisters,” said Russ, who has been delivering the container for the nonprofit–for free– for the past five years. “I do what I can, and I can’t do all of them, but I like to do as much as I can,” he said of his charitable deed. Big Brothers Big Sisters needs the container to safely and legally store their fireworks.

Big Brothers Big Sisters does our part to ensure your kids have a protective web,” explains Executive Director of their North Coast chapter, Florence Parks. “So we do one-on-one mentoring throughout the community at site based programs.” The money raised at this fireworks stand goes directly to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast.

“Every penny we make goes to matching the kids, the funds we make here support at least two matches.”

Those are matches between a big and a little. And this year, you may notice something a little different about the stand.

“The stand this year was rebranded with our big futures partnership,” Parks continued, “so we’ve partnered with students in high school from the sage school who came and designed our new fireworks stand and did all the artwork themselves.”

The stand will open Friday and be open through July 5th, if supplies last.

“So when you come by, you get to see what they put together. It’s all envisioned by our youth by our youth and for our community to continue to support this wonderful organization,” she said in closing.

If you choose to set off fireworks this 4th of July, follow all fire safe guidelines.
