Investigators have not confirmed the identities of the two people killed in Tuesday’s plane crash.

The National Transportation Security Board (NTSB) did confirm via email “It is very early in the investigation and not much information is available at this time. What I can provide is that an NTSB investigator is expected to be on scene today to begin documenting the scene, and examining the aircraft. The aircraft will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation.”

The weather was hazy Tuesday morning at the time of the crash.

It was around 11:15 a.m. when a fatal plane crash took the lives of two people out here in Kneeland.

CAL FIRE responded to the scene first, believing it was a small brush fire.

Once there, crews secured the area as they waited for humboldt county deputies and other emergency services to arrive.

“We have a half-acre fire contained at this moment. Fire spread has been stopped. We got dispatched as soon as it took place so that when one call would have came in and then our dispatch sent out a full response,” CAL FIRE battalion chief Justin Silvera said.

Humboldt deputies confirmed two bodies were found in the wreckage. They were taken to the coroner’s office for autopsy.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the incident, as well as the NTSB.
