more construction delays coming to Highway 36

Traveling along Highway 36 this summer is taking drivers longer than usual, with more delays on the horizon. There are currently six construction stops along Highway 36 from the Humboldt-Trinity County line to the east and Highway 101 to the west. Further 30-minute delays are expected next week at Grizzly Bluffs 8/3 & 8/4.

Highway 36 is famous for its redwoods in Humboldt County, views of the Trinity Alps, mount Shasta and mount Lassen, ending just outside Susanville in the east and just south of Fortuna in the west.  The popular bikers’ highway is dotted with more construction than normal right now, especially between the border of Humboldt and trinity county, and where highway 36 meets highway 101 in the west.

Traveling west on highway 36, the first stop is 8 miles from the Humboldt-Trinity county line.  it’s down to one lane for repaving here. Next stop is two more miles down the road to the west.  there is a red light here controlling one way traffic. The third stop west from the county line is in Bridgeville, just one mile from the last stop.  there is a flagger here controlling traffic, which is again down to one lane. The next stop is in the grizzly creek redwoods state park, seven miles west of the stop in Bridgeville.  of all highways to continually stop along, California 36 May be one of the most beautiful. Five more miles west, there is another stop with a flagger.  this was the longest wait and was thirteen minutes, but who’s counting?Another ten miles towards coast, the sixth and final stop is just west of hydesville.

These closures will continue in this area for general highway repair Monday through Friday, from 7am to 5pm.
