The Humboldt County Fair is back this year with some new updates.
“We start on Wednesday, August 21st and go through September 2nd. We only have two dark days. It’s Monday and Tuesday, August 26th and 27th. One will be doing turnover from the Youth Livestock Show to the Open Livestock Show”, says Moira Kenney, director of the Humboldt County Fair.
This year, the weekend after the fair, there’s more horse racing.
“After the close of our fair, races are starting back on Saturday, September 7th, and going through Sunday, September 8th. Our third weekend of racing will include reduced admission on Saturday with local food vendors, live music and on that third Sunday, we are offering free gate admission. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been working with the California Authority of Racing Fairs for many, many years to try and get a third weekend of racing. Traditionally, we’ve only had host status for one week out of the two weeks. This year, we have host status for all three weeks”, she said.
There are also entertainers and vendors returning after a hiatus.
“For the first time since 2017, we have Super Diamond coming in to perform a concert on Friday, August 30th in the grandstands. And for the first time in many, many years, we filled our commercial hall here in Hindley, and we’re very excited about how many indoor vendors we have coming to the fair this year”, she said.
For the first time ever, there will be a free shuttle service.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Bear River Casino Resort this year for the first time. They’ll be providing shuttling service from their resort parking lot. They’ll be stopping at the Fern bridge bus stop, and then they’ll deliver individuals all the way to our lighthouse gates for entrance. They’ll also do a pick up and return”, she said.

“Our pre-sale tickets are available now on the Humboldt County Fair. Dot org website, as well as in person here at the office right next to the lighthouse, and they will be available until midnight on August 20th”, Kenney says.
