Saturday, Aug. 10, was the 26th Annual Eureka Woofstock at Halvorsen Park on the bay front. Kim Class, Director of Sequoia Humane Society, spoke to Redwood News about the event.

“We are here today celebrating animals, dogs, our relationship with them. We have lots of vendors out here today. You can hear there’s some music in the background,” Class said. “We’ve got a great lineup of bands and there are so many dogs that are out on the course practicing agility, playing games.”

Woofstock is put on by Sequoia Humane Society as a fundraiser.

“100% of the proceeds go to help feed dogs like Gigi,” Class said, referring to the small dog she was holding. “She just got adopted, but we have plenty of dogs at Sequoia that need adoption right now, and this will help us to feed them, care for them, buy them the things that they need, pay for their vet bills, all those kinds of things. And we’re all doing it in the name of fun.”

Woofstock featured plenty of activities for dogs and humans.

“This has been lots of fun,” Sandy Hansen, an attendee, said with her dog next to her. “Huh, Luna? She got her nails clipped. She got a cute little pink tie. We’ve had lots of treats and played games and met lots of other dogs and made a lot of friends. So it’s been a really good time. We love Woofstock. Huh, Luna? Good times.”

Woofstock fosters connection in the dog community.

“You know what I love about Woofstock? It is pure magic,” Class said. “You know, It’s the biggest dog event of the year in Humboldt County. And I’m watching dogs meet dogs, people meet people. It’s pure magic. We’re raising funds and helping animals. It’s a great feeling.”
