Marci Kitchen officially released on parole less than 2 years into 8 year sentence

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Marci Kitchen has been released on parole as part of Governor Newsom’s imminent release plan. This comes after serving less than 2 years of an 8 year sentence.

Redwood News spoke with Faith Tsarnas’s aunt, Carolyn Marchi, who confirmed to us that her sister and Faith’s mother, Stephanie Baldwin, was told by CDCR officials that Kitchen was in fact being released early to Fortuna. That happened yesterday, August 11th.

A spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed yesterday that Kitchen was being released this month as part early release actions taken in July to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the prison system.

Assistant District Attorney Stacey Eads says she was first notified on July 20th by the Eureka Parole Unit that Kitchen was to be a part of Newsom’s early release plan.

Kitchen was originally sentenced to 8 years in prison back in 2018 for vehicular manslaughter and DUI after fatally striking 2 teenage girls, her daughter Kiya Kitchen and her friend Faith Tsarnas, then fleeing the scene.
