Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office investigating missing person’s case near Korbel

KORBEL, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a missing person case after a Berkeley woman’s car was found abandoned on a logging road near Korbel.

On September 24th around 8:30 pm, a timber company employee called the sheriff’s office after finding a vehicle abandoned on Snow Camp Road with a note on the window saying tow to Berkeley. The car belonged to 75-year-old Betty Baxter Simmons.

Simmons’ personal belongings were found inside the car. A search of the surrounding area was conducted with no results. Simmons was reportedly last seen around September 5th in Berkeley and told a neighbor she was going on a short trip. She has not returned to her home since.

Betty Simmons is described as a 75-year-old white female, about 5’6 and 156 pounds, with grey hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
