Suspect in Bear River Rancheria triple homicide taken into custody, identity of victims released

LOLETA, Calif. (KIEM) — The suspect in Wednesday’s triple homicide on the Bear River Rancheria has been taken into custody in Utah, that’s according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

18-year-old Mauricio Eduardo Johnson of Loleta was taken into custody after investigators learned 2 vehicles associated with Johnson were seen in Tooele County, Utah. 46-year-old Von Eric Keener and a female subject were also taken into custody at the time.

We’re also learning more about the three victims who have been identified as 40-year-old Nikki Dion Metcalf, 40-year-old Margarett Lee Moon, and 16-year-old Shelly Autumn Mae Moon. Two juveniles were also found inside the home uninjured and were placed into safe custody.

“Now our investigators are going to have to go out to Utah to conduct interviews with the subject, as well as the associated parties. We’ll be moving eventually to extradite him to face his charges here in Humboldt County,” according to Public Information Specialist Samantha Karges.
