EUREKA – Eureka wants you to fund and build a parklet.

Council officially approved the program following the success of four miniature parks in old town.

With that approval and safety requirements in place, businesses and property owners are encouraged to dream big and submit designs.

The pilot project launched in 2015 as a way to provide more outdoor seating in Eureka. It was also viewed as a strategy to overcome the loss of state redevelopment funds and a creative way to build partnerships between the city and private businesses without the use of tax dollars.

Eureka Development Services Director Rob Holmlund said, “We’re working really hard to be business friendly and one of the options that we’ve come up with are parklets where we encourage businesses to invest in the public space, create a place where people can enjoy without any funds from the city being expended and we try to help make the process as simple as possible while creating really high quality places.”
