LOLETA – A celebration of Wiyot culture took place on the Table Bluff Reservation Saturday in Loleta.
Members from the Wiyot, cultural leaders and friends of the tribe came from all across Northern California to celebrate Wiyot sovereignty, cultural distinction and family unification.
The celebrations included traditional features, such as food and cooking demonstrations, games, and dancers.
Native American vendors, merchandise, and educational booths were also available.
“Today’s event is to honor our elders and our veterans that are here and that have passed. They are the ones that got us here today. If it wasn’t for our elders, we would not be here. It was their fight that got us here,” said Tribal Chairman and Culture Director Ted Hernandez.
