ARCATA – Community members came together on Sunday to run in honor of a fallen Navy Seal from Arcata.

This was the fourth year of the Kevin Ebbert Memorial Trail Run through the Arcata Redwood Park. Every year his family chooses a cause to donate the funds from the run to in honor of Ebbert. This year they chose the Humboldt Bay Trail Fund, which is a community fund set up to support the ongoing maintenance and development of the Humboldt Bay Trail, which connects between Arcata and Eureka. Kevin Ebbert was an Arcata High School graduate who went on study at the University of California, after he graduated he enlisted in the United States Navy where he became a Navy Seal. He was killed in action in Afghanistan in November 2012. His mom says they’re excited the funds are going to the bay trail this year because it is something that he loved.

Part of the Humboldt Bay trail runs along highway 101, in the same section of the highway that is dedicated to Ebbert
