Are you Ready? Fire Season Officially Begins Tomorrow

Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM)- May 1st in the official start of “fire season.” That isn’t to say that diligence in preventing wildfires should ever be dictated by a calendar (ask anyone at CalFire). It just means this time of year conditions are primed for major, devastating fires.

That’s why starting Tuesday an extra (LE-5) permit will be required to conduct burn operations on your property. The permitting process is completely free, and intended as a public service. Obtaining a permit is as easy as stopping by any CalFire station. Burn permits are required year round by the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQMD).
