Arcata police officer part of 300 mile bike ride

An Arcata police officer is back on the North Coast after traveling to the Fallen Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

Sergeant Chris Wilson, of the APD has taken part in the 300 mile bike ride for the past five years. Although he was injured a few days before this year’s ride, he still took part in the event, as a support vehicle following behind the riders.

Wilson tells us they traveled through four states in four days, making a pit stop every 20 miles. About 2,800 riders took part in the Police Unity Tour, and raised over $2.8 million dollars. All money raised goes to maintain the National Law Enforcement Memorial. Wilson says it was a surreal experience to be part of the tour.
