There are currently 600 fire personnel battling the blaze, which started just before 1:00PM on Wednesday, near Lakehead in Shasta County.

Evacuations orders have been issued for the fire on both sides of I-5 north, from Lakehead, to the Shasta-Siskiyou County line. The latest details on Delta Fire evacuations is available, here.

There is an evacuation center set up at the Mount Shasta Community Center.

The I-5 remains closed from about 10 miles north of Redding at Fawndale Road, to 3.6 miles south of Mount Shasta, at Mott Road.

Firefighters say it is progressing mostly to the north, in brush and steep terrain.

Not far away, also north of Redding, by about 18 miles, is the Hirz Fire. This fire started a month ago, as of this Sunday, and is 75% contained.

Sitting at over 46,142 acres, 1,393 fire personnel are assigned to the Hirz Fire.

As of Wednesday, the McCloud River Club continues to be evacuated as a precaution, but the forest service says no other communities are threatened by the Hirz Fire.

Both the Hirz Fire, and the Delta Fire are labeled as “human” caused.
