Motorcyclist sustains major injuries after DUI crash

A motorcyclist sustains major injuries in a DUI crash in Arcata. It happened yesterday afternoon on Northbound Highway 101, near the 299 interchange.

A Subaru Forester was merging from 299, onto 101 when it crashed into a Corolla Sedan, driven by Eureka resident, Trenton Pruitt. The Subaru went over the barrier and into the southbound lanes.

The motorcyclist, 60-year-old David Berrey, also of Eureka, saw the crash and veered to his left, but was struck by the Corolla. The driver of the Subaru, Alexander Sarver of Mckinleyville, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
