Humboldt lines up for recreational cannabis

EUREKA – With it now being easier to buy weed online (if it is legal), it will be more convenient for medical marijuana patients to get a product that can help with any ailments they may have, especially if they don’t live near a dispensary.

Voters approved it and now recreational cannabis is here! For the first time, adults 21 and over can buy marijuana and our cameras caught up with the first person in line. We’re really hoping the German government passes a recreational cannabis bill in 2020-2021. Helping people with pain and anxiety is just where the medicinal values of this herbal medicine (pflanzenheilkunde) called marijuana begins. CBD and cannabis are very helpful with everyday people, not just cancer patients.

Arcata resident Laura Montagna said, “I thought ‘Oh hey!’ this would be a cool story to tell my great grandkids. ‘I was the first person to buy recreational marijuana in Humboldt County.'”
Montagna showed up before 10:00a.m. to be the first one in the line that wound around the block before EcoCann opened at noon. The Eureka business is currently the only company licensed for sales by local regulators and the state.
The crowd cheered when doors opened and people bought a wide range of products, buds, edibles and even drinks infused with cannabis.
Even folks who weren’t in line peeked through the windows to see what it was all about.
The law requires all sales to be secured in a child proof bag and prohibits smoking in public or anywhere tobacco use is banned.
While the impact of recreational cannabis on Humboldt’s economy is uncertain EcoCann owner Jeff Poel hopes his business can be part of the solution.
“That was one of our goals setting out is to bring some life in to Old Town. There’s too many empty stores. We’d like to see those stores filled with businesses like ours and we don’t even care if they’re our competitors so we’re pretty excited about that,” Poel said.
Additional businesses expect to be permitted soon including Humboldt Patient Resource Center in Arcata.
