Eureka teen fatally struck by car identified

EUREKA, CA. – A Eureka teenager killed in a foggy-night crash is identified.

Elias Silva was 17-years old-when he was fatally hit this weekend.

California Highway Patrol says on Saturday night just before 11:30, Silva was running east when for reasons unknown, he collided with a Honda CR-V, traveling south on Walnut Drive, near Hurst Road.

Officers noted at the time of the incident, roadways were wet and visibility was limited due to fog.

The driver, 60-year-old Darlene Johannsen, stayed at the scene and called 911 while trying to block the roadway.

Silva was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

CHP says DUI is not a factor, and they continue to investigate.

A GoFundMe donation page has been set up to support the teen’s family: https://www.gofundme.com/68zwa-help-the-silva-family
