EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – A collision between a bicyclist and big rig in Eureka is now a fatal accident.

California Highway Patrol says 37-year old cyclist Zachary Herbert of Eureka has died from injuries he suffered in last Thursday’s accident on Broadway.

The Eureka man was riding his bike on the sidewalk, but turned into traffic, hitting the rear wheels of a semi carrying timber.

The impact threw Herbert into the air, and he landed in the bus station pullout in front of the Broadway cinema.

A lock from the bike came off and hit bystander, Steven Crivelli, who was nearby in a cover bus stop, injuring his leg.

This crash remains under investigation, and those with more information should contact Humboldt area California Highway Patrol at 707-822-5981.
