Burn ban to go into effect in Humboldt, Del Norte counties

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – In light of windy, dry conditions Cal Fire is temporarily suspending burning in Humboldt, Del Norte and West Trinity counties.

Cal-fire Humboldt and Del Norte Units say they are suspending any outdoor burning, outside of incorporated areas, beginning at 6:00AM on July 2.

Campfires may be allowed at organized campsites or private property if they are properly permitted.

Officials say the suspensions won’t be lifted until conditions improve.

Cal Fire has these tips to share with home owners, who would like to protect their property from potential fire damage:

  • Clear all dead and or dying vegetation 100 feet from around all structures.
  • Landscape with fire resistant/drought tolerant plants.
  • Find alternative ways to dispose of landscape debris like chipping or hauling it to a biomass energy facility.
