Non-related firework fires on Fourth of July

ARCATA – With all of the Fourth of July festivities happening yesterday, it kept the Arcata Fire Department busy in Northern Humboldt. Arcata firefighters responded to calls, but they weren’t all attributed to firework use. There were three structure fires and two vegetation fires. One of the structure fires was caused by a heat lamp in a chicken coop and the other was a faulty water heater… The fireworks related structure fire was a result of improperly disposed fireworks. Arcata fire quickly contained those fires. The cause of the Arcata vegetation fires are currently under investigation. The Arcata fire district would like to remind everyone to be extremely diligent while extinguishing fireworks, as well as while disposing barbecue ashes or other burning materials.
