47 residents without shelter after apartment complex fire

47 Eureka residents are still without shelter, after an apartment complex fire last Thursday, at the corner of Harris and California streets.

Fire crews say the apartment building is not safe to go inside. Eureka Director of Development Services, Rob Holmlund, was unavailable today to speak on camera, but tells us the complex is sealed.

The fire posed more than $75,000 worth of damage, and started in an unoccupied room, but the exact cause of the fire is still unknown. There were no reported injuries.

Volunteers for American Red Cross in Mckinleyville provided residents toiletries, blankets, and some money for food and lodging.

Although Eureka city staff are on holiday, Redwood News will continue to follow up on this story.
