City of Arcata to select new mayor, vice mayor

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) The time has come for the City of Arcata to appoint a new mayor and vice mayor.

The Arcata City Council will pick a mayor and vice mayor at a special noontime meeting Thursday in the Council Chamber. Mayor Sofia Periera and Vice Mayor Brett Watson held their titles for a year.

Pereira, a Humboldt State graduate received majority of votes in a four-way race for two council seats when she was elected in 2014. Vice Mayor Watson, also an HSU graduate, was appointed to his seat in April, by councilmembers to replace Mark Wheetley after he stepped down.

The council rotates the positions on an annual basis.
