New traffic signal to be installed at Broadway and Hawthorne

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – Starting in a few weeks, the California Department of Transportation will be making some modifications to the Broadway Corridor in Eureka.

The safety project will include a new stoplight at the intersection of Broadway and Hawthorne Street.

Fairfield Street will be blocked off at Del Norte Street using planter boxes. By doing so, Wabash and Broadway will become a four-way intersection.

The $2.5 million project was awarded to Mercer Fraser of Eureka.

Caltrans hopes the project will improve traffic flow and allow pedestrians a safer way to cross the road.

Weather permitting, the completion of this project is anticipated during the summer of this year.
