SOMOA, CA. (KIEM) – You may have noticed some added traffic along our waterways and we’re talking more than just crab boats. In an effort to increase port activity multiple local agencies are looking to drastically improve the infrastructure of Humboldt Bay.

According to the Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District. There has been an increase in the number of commercial ships using our port. Along with that the access of our bay between the North and South Jetty will be dredged in 2020 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

To further the need for improved infrastructure a Terra-Gen Wind Energy Project, basically, a potential windmill farm in the ocean is currently a potential way to fund the 21st century port upgrades. The City of Eureka has already given a letter of support for this project.
