Pelican Bay State Prison Inmates clean up Highway 101

CRESCENT CITY, Ca., (KIEM) – You may have seen men in orange jumpsuits picking up trash on Highway 101 near Crescent City on Thursday. Those were Pelican Bay State Prison inmates hard at work.

This is something that could start happening monthly. The goal is for them to give Caltrans a break so they can go clean up places only state workers can go.

Subway provided sandwiches for the workers. The cleanup was set up by Del Norte County First District Supervisor Roger Gitlin.
