New Fortuna Trail Soon to be Complete

FORTUNA, Ca. (KIEM) – A trail that was originally filled with homeless encampments and trash will soon have new a beginning.

The Dennis Wendt Memorial Trail is almost complete. It’s located near 3rd and Main Street, right behind Redi-Rents. It’s converting the old railroad into a trail that will run up to Palmer Boulevard.

Sean Swanson has been cleaning the area for over ten years. In that time, Swanson and a team of volunteers cleaned up over 300,000 pounds of trash. With the trail almost complete, Swanson says it’s adding the old with new while keeping the beauty of the area.

Later this spring, there will be a grand opening for The Dennis Wendt Memorial Trail.

Donations can still be made to the River Life Foundation to P.O. Box 384 Fortuna, California or through Central Credit Union to Dennis Wendt Memorial Trail Fund.
