President William McKinley Statue to be removed from Arcata Plaza

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) The President William McKinley Statue will soon be on the move to Canton, Ohio after a unanimous decision by the Arcata City Council.

This comes after city leaders previously voted to remove the statue a year ago. The city of Canton’s offer also includes relocation costs. The city is a previous residence of William McKinley and home to the McKinley presidential library and museum.

Some Arcata residents told Redwood News that they don’t want it there anymore, because of what happened under the McKinley administration with Native Americans and other racial issues. Others think it is a historic monument for the Plaza. Council member Paul Pitino thinks its time for McKinley to go.

It may take some time before the McKinley statue is removed from the Plaza.
