Kamisu Tree in Eureka destroyed

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) It’s a tree gifted to the city of Eureka by Eureka’s sister city in Japan. Last month delegation from Kamisu brought six flowering cherry trees during a dedication for Eureka’s new greenspace ‘Kamisu Park’

That park is on Fourth Street near the Myrtle Avenue intersection.

Saturday we learned one of those trees has been destroyed.

We know it was reported to police but no suspects have been identified.

Eureka’s community services director said he’s noticed vandalism like this in other parts of the city.
