CRESCENT CITY, CA (KIEM) – California Highway Patrol Officers in Crescent City have more elbow room in their new building.

They’re going from an office space that was 4,000 square feet and built in the 60’s, to a 23,000 square foot facility. Some of the new upgrades include a Women’s Locker Room, a D-U-I Investigation Room, and a Briefing Room.

The total cost of the project was around $23.5 million. Construction for the building started two years ago. The upgrades were a long time coming.

“Oh gosh, it’s like going from a shack to a mansion. I mean that’s the best way to describe it I guess. It’s a huge upgrade. I mean we’re very honored to be able to have a new building. Our old building was from the 1960s. It was built before even women were on the department. So its been there for quite some time,” said Brandy Gonzalez, Public Information Office for CHP in Crescent City.

The new office is located next to Walmart on Summer Lane. The CHP hopes to have an open house in August.
