Low-income residence may soon be coming to downtown Arcata

ARCATA (KIEM)- Arcata City Council met Wednesday night to discuss the possibility of a 4-story building coming to downtown Arcata.

The building will be for low-income residents and will hold roughly 44-units. There will be a one, two, or three-bedroom option.

The city must decide if the 1.8 million dollar building would be locally funded. The money is already set aside as designated funds for housing.

Residents raised some issues at the meeting regarding parking, the overall height of the building, and solar issues.

The planning commission will vote on the permits on June 25th and will hold a special meeting on June 27th for the city to consider funding.
