Eureka Residents Enjoy Food and Music at Community Barbecue

EUREKA, CA (KIEM)– Residents enjoyed a free community barbecue with food, live music and activities for children at the former Jacobs Campus in Eureka.

The South Eureka Neighborhood Alliance co-sponsored the family-friendly event along with John Shelter of New Directions.

There were hot dogs, burgers, veggie and vegan enchiladas and sweets. There were even some attendees who picked up trash at the site.

The purpose of the event was to bring the community together.

“It makes everyone happy and come together as a community to know what everyone wants. I mean if no one comes to together they don’t really know what they need and want for their community,” said Kylie Marie a 16 year-old Eureka Resident.

“We’re really hoping that part of what comes out of the barbecue here is that more people decide they want to join the South Eureka Neighborhood Alliance, said Amy Jester, who is one of the organizers. We’re really all just a group of like people that live in the neighborhood that are coming together to make this stuff happen.”
