Reports of Shots fired in McKinleyville, Residents kept out of homes for hours

McKINLEYVILLE, Ca (KIEM)– Residents in McKinleyville were kept out of their homes for hours after reports of shots fired.

It happened around 10 am Wednesday. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s office received calls from multiple citizens about shots fired near Reasor Road. Deputies say a black adult male wearing a red sports jersey was seen leaving Larissa Circle in a blue sedan.

Law enforcement searched the area but they were unable to locate the firearm or blue sedan.

The sheriff’s office, Arcata police, CHP, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Cal Fire were on scene. Several individuals were detained and later released. Deputies believe two groups may have been involved in an altercation.

Redwood News spoke to a resident who lives in the area. She said she was not allowed in her home for a couple of hours, but her son was home at the time of the incident.

“I was worried. I was scared. I called them, and I told them to stay inside and not to open the door for anybody. The neighborhood is usually pretty good. There’s a lot of stuff that goes down in those apartments down there,” said Tammi Clary, a McKinleyville resident.

The sheriff’s office said there were no reports of any injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call law enforcement.
