City of Arcata prepares for Lantern Floating Ceremony

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Every year the city of Arcata holds a Lantern Floating Ceremony to remember those who died and were affected by the World War 2 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

This year the ceremony approaches its 37th year as community members prepare to acknowledge the unforgettable event of 1945.

The city said, the ceremony affirms Arcata’s dedication to the cause of peace and brings the community together for a collective moment of reflection.

Before the lantern floating, people will gather on the Arcata Plaza to decorate and write a heartfelt message on each paper lantern.
