County Wants To Ban Target Shooting, Establish Safety Zones

SAMOA, Ca. (KIEM) – Target shooting on the Samoa Peninsula may soon be a thing of the past.

After complaints from local residents, Humboldt County and the Board of Supervisors is looking to ban target shooting, as well as establish safety zones prohibiting gunfire within 150 yards of an occupied building.

Recently, community members in Samoa have expressed concerns for their safety because of an informal shooting range southeast of town.

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to have staff come up with specific language for the ban. It will be brought back before the board at a future meeting and if approved, it will be added to the already existing gun regulations in place.
