Arcata, Ca. (KIEM) — Nearly 200 8th graders got a taste of what college life is like at this year’s “I’ve Been Admitted to College” program at Humboldt State University.

Students gathered on HSU’s campus Friday to experience what it’s like to be a college student and to become a lumberjack for a day. The program allows students to become familiar with the campus early on in their academic careers.

The 8th graders got to tour the campus, meet with the admissions office and current students, and learn about fun activities at the library, like the brain booth, VR goggles, and flight simulator. To wrap up the day, each participant will receive a certificate promising them admission to HSU, as long as they meet certain requirements. The university hopes participants walk away being able to see themselves as HSU students in the future.

The event is held every year and features students from Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino, and Trinity counties.
