Councilmember Bergel, Eureka resident look to resolve differences

Kim Bergel

EUREKA, Ca (KIEM)-The question of whether or not a restraining order will be issued against Eureka resident Cornelious Lowenstine on behalf of councilwoman Kim Bergel went unanswered.

A hearing on the matter was held Thursday afternoon at the Humboldt County Courthouse.

Bergel says Lowenstein has sent her hateful messages using profanity against her on social media over the course of the last two years.

Lowenstein says that all of his comments directed at Bergel are political statements, not threats of violence.

Judge Kelly Neel suggested the parties discuss reaching an agreement privately. The hearing has been postponed until March 19, to give both Bergel and Lowenstein the time to discuss that option.

Bergel is hoping for the best but says that she has had enough of the harassment.

Redwood News spoke with both Lowenstein and his attorney, Arlie Capps after the hearing. Right now, they do not want to make any comments at this time but they said they would release a statement at a later date.
