Humboldt County Airport Remains Open Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

Arcata, Ca. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Airport remains open during the Covid-19 pandemic, but some changes are being made. Services to Los Angeles and Denver International Airports have been suspended, and the service to San Francisco has been reduced to 2 departures per day.

Airport staff is working with Public Health to take steps to ensure the safety of both travelers and employees. Additional hand-washing stations and hand-sanitizing pumps have been added to the terminal, and additional cleaning measures have also been implemented. Message boards have been put up alerting incoming passengers of the current shelter in place order and asking them to self-isolate for 14 days.

The joint information center has received a number of questions regarding the airport, but shutting it down isn’t the solution. According to Sheriff Honsal, more people travel into the county by vehicle via Highway 101 or Highway 299.

United continues to adjust flight schedules, and ACV recommends checking with the carrier if you have any trips planned.
