Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — Covid-19 has already made its way to the North Coast, and Public Health continues to build models to best predict when the peak of the virus will hit.

With new factors each day, like trying to predict how many people a person could infect, they are constantly adjusting that data. Dr. Frankovich reminds residents that there could be another wave of infections in the future.

The severity of that surge will depend on how we unfold the precautionary measures we have in place, such as cancelling mass gatherings and implementing shelter in place orders.

In hopes of increasing testing, public health doesn’t adhere by the CDC’s narrow testing criteria, but does prioritize some cases over others. As far as surveillance testing for those that are asymptomatic, it won’t be available locally any time in the immediate future, but public health is looking at the possibility.
