DEL NORTE COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM)-Negotiations between an armed person and law officials caused highway 101 between mile marker 14 and 22 to be shut down for hours causing motorist to become stranded on either side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the Del Norte Office of Emergency Services, the Red Cross and DNCO worked with the Yurok OES to provide blankets and other supplies to motorists stranded on the hill between South Beach and Klamath, due to the ongoing law enforcement incident.

By order of public health and OES hotels were authorized to rent rooms to non-residents of Del Norte County who were trapped on either side of the highway 101.

Yurok OES also opened their hotel to stranded motorists.

Due to the amount of traffic, the closure was extended to highway 101 and Humboldt Road in Crescent City.

The road has since reopened, additional information is not available at this time.
